On a night when the defending champions Real Madrid faced off with London-based club Chelsea for a place in the last four at the Bernabeu, Frank Lampard took charge of his first Uefa Champions League match he is Chelsea's third manager in the UCL this season.
As expected, Real Madrid dominated the first half. Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo ran circles around the Chelsea defence, who hardly had a touch.
Real Madrid then took a 1-0 through marksman Benzema after Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa kept out a tricky header from starman Vinicius. Chelsea's best chance, however, came close to equalising through Jamaica-born Raheem Sterling, but Coutouris made a smart stop to keep Real Madrid's 1-0 lead intact to end the half.
It was much of the same in the second half for Real Madrid as they continued to dominate Chelsea with numerous dangerous attacks after Rodrygo picked up where he left off as the Madrid forward made two separate runs which saw Koulibaly left injured, while Chelsea defender Ben Chillwell was shown a red for bringing down the Brazilian.

Carlo Ancelotti then brought on Spaniard forward Marco Asensio, who repaid his manager instantly with a well-placed shot in the corner of the goal to put Real Madrid 2-0 up which came from a precise pass from Vinicius.
