A parking garage collapse in Manhattan, New York (NYC), has injured five people and claimed the life of one victim.
The incident happened just before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, with one reported witness stating that the collapse came out of nowhere and sent everyone in the next-door building rushing. Officials disclosed that injuries and fatalities are expected to increase. Four of the injured were hospitalised, while one chose not to seek medical assistance.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams has described the building as being completely unstable. The shared parking garage is used by the NYC Sheriff’s Office to park vehicles during work at the Manhattan office. All personnel have been accounted for.
The NYC fire department has utilised drones and a robotic dog to survey the garage. In footage of the aftermath, several vehicles can be seen amidst the rubble of the multi-story building.
