Dancehall artiste Mavado, born David Brooks, has commemorated his son Dante Brooks' birthday with words of encouragement as the 21-year-old continues to serve a life sentence in prison.
Brooks and his co-accused, Andre Hinds, were sentenced to serve life in prison for murder in 2021. Both men were also convicted of illegal possession of firearm and arson, for which they were sentenced to serve 15 years each in prison. Both sentences will run concurrently, with Brooks required to serve 22 years before he is eligible for parole.
On Monday, Mavado shared a photograph of himself and his son while celebrating his birthday and shared a few uplifting words.
"In God we trust my son, and time is the master birthday boy," Mavado wrote.
The deejay is a father of five, two girls, Daisy and Danielle, and three boys, Vuitton, Gavyn, and Dante, who was 18 years old at the time of his sentencing in 2021. The then-teen was found guilty of the 2018 murder of Lorenzo Thomas Cassava Piece, St. Andrew.

Following Brooks' conviction, Mavado argued that corruption had played a part in his son's arrest and charge and questioned the reliability of the prosecution's main witness, Thomas' father.
