Tory Lanez's Motion for a New Trial Dismissed

Tory Lanez's Motion for a New Trial Dismissed

Tory Lanez's plea for a new trial regarding his recent guilty verdict following the 2020 shooting incident with Megan Thee Stallion was denied on May 9 by Los Angeles judge David Herriford.

In late December, Lanez, legally named Daystar Peterson, was found guilty of shooting the female rapper in the foot, and he later filed for an appeal. However, Judge David Herriford dismissed the motion yesterday, and the Canadian artiste begged the judge not to "ruin his life" while presenting the argument that he could be his "son" or his "brother," according to a report from the Independent.

In the report, Legal Affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff detailed that Judge Herriford said, "In the end, the jury believed the prosecution’s case beyond a reasonable doubt."

Tory Lanez's sentencing date, which was initially February 28, was postponed to give his legal team time to request a new trial. His attorneys submitted a radical motion to remove Judge Herriford from the case, informing the judge that they did not believe he could decide until the motion was resolved, and Herriford rebutted this.

Herriford said that the sentencing might occur within 30 days of his decision, but a sentencing date has not been set.

Lanez was found guilty of assault and possession of a weapon, and he now faces a jail sentence of more than 20 years.

Lanez and Megan reportedly got into a fight, and when she got out of his SUV and tried to leave, he started shooting at her feet.
