Biggie Smalls' 51st Birthday

Biggie Smalls' 51st Birthday

Rap Legend Biggie Small would have turned 51 on Sunday, May 21, and a huge celebration was planned in the late entertainer's name. In honour of the musician, better known by the stage name Notorious B.I.G., the Empire State Building lit up in red and white, with a spinning crown on its mast.

His visage would also be embossed on MetroCards, cards used as a payment method for the New York City Subway. These two celebrations for the hip-hop legend's fiftieth birthday are just two of many that were planned.

Biggie, legally named Christopher George Latore Wallace, rose to recognition through collaboration. The rapper and songwriter, who joined Bad Boy Records in 1993, wrote songs about celebrations, sufferings, and criminality.

The songs Juicy and Big Poppa from his debut album, Ready to Die, became hugely famous.
Life After Death, his second album, received a diamond certification and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Biggie, a Brooklyn native from Bedford-Stuyvesant, was murdered at 24 years old in Los Angeles after releasing his Grammy-nominated studio albums. The murder of the iconic rapper was never solved.
