The 2023 Met Gala was a runway for celebrities in their best version of Karl Lagerfeld’s style, and one star, in particular, became a crowd fave not only for her taste in fashion but also for her stunning figure and her explanation of how she achieved it.
American singer and actress Janelle Monáe strutted her stuff at the Met Gala, a name which comes from being held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, America, wearing a custom-made Thom Browne fit.
The black and white look was inspired by a tuxedo jacket with rose detailing and was worn with a wire dress frame with a black sequin bikini underneath, paired with black and white platform boots and a white cat handbag to complete the look.

Janelle Monáe - InstagramTo add to the fanfare, Monáe was asked the question “What’s the secret to this body?” by an Essence Magazine reporter, and she replied, “It’s Jamaican food and sex.” Loud cheers erupted from the crowd in response to her answer as she walked away and up the stairs.

Monáe is known for songs like Float, I Like That, Yoga, and Make Me Feel. As an actress, she was cast alongside Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer in the 2016 film Hidden Figures where she played the role of one of the three African-American mathematician women who, while battling against gender and racial oppression and work, play a critical part behind the scene of John Glenn’s launch into outer space.
She is also known for her more recent appearance in the movie Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) where Monáe goes undercover as her look-alike dead sister to find out who killed her.
