Retired sprint legend Usain Bolt is seemingly unbothered by reports of French footballer Kylian Mbappe clocking in one second slower than his 100m record.
Known for his speed on the field, Mbappe, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, recently registered an estimated speed of 10.9 seconds over 100m while playing in the Champions League. Following his performance, a BBC Sport post on Twitter/X on Tuesday boasted that the player had registered just over a second slower than Bolt's 9.58 second 100m world record.
Since the record was set in 2009 in Berlin, the time has so far been unbeatable. While Mbappe's time may be impressive on the football field, Bolt is seemingly unbothered by the comparison.
The track star took to his Instagram page on Thursday, resharing a post made by World Athletics. Featured in the post was the BBC's post combined with a photo of Olympians Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce laughing.
Captioning the post, World Athletics wrote, “10.90? That’s cute,” along with a laughing emoji. Fraser-Pryce went on to react to the post in the comments, sharing some laughing emojis of her own.
Adding context to the comparison between Bolt and Mbappe, an X user wrote, “Note that this estimation is based on the top speed and with a flying start. Nothing comparable with a 100m-sprint with fixed start.”
Others on X also voiced similar sentiments and described the time difference as vast.
