Squash's 'Get Up' Rockets to #1 on Trending

Squash's 'Get Up' Rockets to #1 on Trending

While many artistes have found it challenging to break Vybz Kartel's grip on the top spot of trending music in Jamaica on YouTube over the past month, 6ix Boss Squash has secured the #1 spot on the platform with his latest release, Get Up.

Many doubted how strong his popularity would be after his release from prison, Kartel has held supremacy over trending music since the release of his first track out of prison, The Comet. Released on September 13, The Comet was followed by M.O.T.M. (Man Of The Match), which featured both Kartel and his son Likkle Addi, and since the song's release, they have remained at the top of the chart.

However, Squash's new single, Get Up, has proven to be a popular one among Dancehall fans, who have propelled the track to #1 on trending. The Dancehall track was released on October 13 and has since acquired over 599,000 views and 28,000 likes since its release.

Its music video features an audio clip of Squash tauntingly pushing a foe to "get up" and meet him face to face. With a number of armed men by his side, Squash proceeds to showcase his bravado in a series of hard-hitting lyrics.

"Mi mac-11 crow like a roosta. suck p**sy bwoy who a fool yuh? A headshot yuh get a brain tumour. Duppy fi mek me send mi likkle killa pon a Uber. Hell gate strika buss man jelly. Nuh diss YG ah mi family, KB 6ix blood a nuh cranberry," Squash sings on the track.

Get Up's rapid rise on the trending chart has seemingly been fuelled by the drama surrounding recent real-world events, with social media users associating the single's lyrics with two highly publicised shootings. One is the recent shooting of popular TikToker World Dawg, who was injured during a shooting in Florida on October 15, and the other is the shooting of Trinidadian artiste Plumpy Boss.

Plumpy Boss sustained a gunshot wound to the head while in St. Maarten for a performance, and some listeners have associated the lyrics "A headshot yuh get a brain tumour" with the incident.

"plumps boss got a stray “A headshot yuh get a brain tumour” knock it pon a 7 fully 6 GET UP NUH," one viewer wrote.

Another stated, "Good ting this release before world dawg get cawn up, this đŸ”„."
