Pocket Rocket whose real name is Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is about to be honoured with the renaming of the road that she lived on in Waterhouse while growing up. The street known as Ashoka Road will soon be called Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Drive
The announcement was made public on Wednesday, October 9, following a ruling the day prior.
Fraser-Pryce has not reacted to the news made public by the Jamaica Information Service(JIS), however, many Jamaicans have been congratulating her online.
One person reacted to the news on Instagram, commenting, "Well deserved! I could see her running barefoot on that rd when she was younger," another person wanted more, saying, "A shoulda Washington Boulevard them name after her still but this is long overdue still no joke."
The decision was made to rename the road by The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC). It is regarded as a token of gratitude for her accomplishments on the track and also her philanthropic work done via her Pocket Rocket Foundation.
Councillor for the Waterhouse Division, Byron Clarke, talked about the endeavour, outlining that the name was overdue. He also praised the printer for being an inspiration to the community.
