Rikkie Valerie Kollé became the first transwoman to win a national beauty pageant after being crowned Miss Netherlands 2023.
The crown was handed over to the new Miss Netherlands by former winner Ona Moody, Miss Netherlands 2022, and Miss Universe R'Bonney Gabriel, from the USA. Rikkie wore a fitted red gown with a slit above her thigh as she collected her crown.
Kollé (22), who lives in Breda, Netherlands, was crowned on Saturday, July 8, at AFAS Theatre in Leusden.
Following her victory, Kollé shared the news with her Instagram followers. "I DID IT!!!!! . It's unreal but I can call myself @missnederland 2023," Rikkie wrote.
Moreover, she said she was happy and proud after her win. She described the journey as educational and enjoyable.
In continuing, Kollé stated that she wanted to share her story as a transgender person. In addition, she felt proud to do this on her own, and knowing herself is what counts.
Rikkie thanked the judges, the wider Miss Netherlands team, and her fellow contestants. She claimed her win was just the beginning.
The competition's official Instagram account posted a picture of Kollé in her crown. In the caption, they described her growth and progress throughout the show. They also stated that she has a strong story with a clear mission. They were happy to announce to the people of the Netherlands and the world at large that the 2023 Miss Netherlands is Rikkie.
Rikkie Valerie Kollé will again create history when she represents her country on the world stage. She will vie for the title of Miss Universe 2023, which will take place in El Salvador in December.
