According to state prosecutors, renowned rapper YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, confessed to double murder based on evidence in his text messages.
On Monday, following multiple delays in the case, the state presented text messages allegedly sent by YNW Melly saying, "I did that," alongside a smiling emoji.
The state believes YNW Melly via this text revealed his involvement in the murder of two of his close friends, Anthony Williams, known as YNW Sakchaser, and Christopher Thomas Jr., known as YNW Juvy.
His defence team, however, has denied that their client was involved with the message. YNW Melly's defence team response to the stunning revelation was shared via Twitter by Cathy Russon, the executive producer of Law & Crime Network.
"DAT v. THAT. On cross-exam, the defense shows many texts where #YNWMelly spells the word 'that' as 'dat". Defense insinuating whoever typed "that" wasn't their client. #YNWMellyTrial," Cathy Russon wrote.
