Dante Brooks made a recent appearance in court, as the 22-year-old is reported to be in the process of seeking an appeal for his 2021 conviction for murder, arson, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Brooks, son of dancehall artiste David Brooks, professionally known as Mavado, was convicted alongside his co-defendant Andre Hinds for the 2018 murder of 23-year-old Lorenzo Thomas. Brooks and Hinds were identified as two of five alleged assailants who invaded the victim's home in Cassava Piece on June 5 and shot him.
The men reportedly tried to sever Thomas's head from his body, but the act was halted as the machete was said to be too dull, and they proceeded to pour gasoline on the body and the house, then set it on fire. Following Brook's guilty verdict, his attorney, Peter Champagnie, disclosed that his team would be seeking an appeal of the verdict for the then-18-year-old.
Reported footage of Brook's recent court appearance to contest the verdict has been circulating online. In the video shot by a bystander waiting outside the courthouse, onlookers scream Brook's name as he is led inside a police transport vehicle along with other prisoners.

In regards to Brook's forthcoming appeal, Champagnie previously cited multiple grounds for contesting the verdict, such as allegations that witnesses were forced to give false statements, inconsistencies during witness testimonies, and the release of multiple people who were purportedly connected to the case.
