Vybz Kartel was taken to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon for an unknown illness.

The “Dancehall Hero” deejay was spotted at the University Hospital doing a medical examination. The Correctional Department is tight lipped about his doctor’s visit, but sources told us that he was complaining about feeling pain in his stomach.

“It’s nothing serious so the fans don’t need to worry too much … he was just complaining about feeling pain in his stomach, so he was taken to get checked out as a precaution,” a rep for the deejay said.

Vybz Kartel, who is currently serving a life sentence in maximum security prison, was snapped by a hospital staff in handcuff, wearing a pink t-shit, denim pants, and sunglasses. was he prayer to god for some form of help?

Legendary musician and Rolling Stones’ frontman, Mick Jagger, says incarcerated dancehall artiste Vybz kartel and Jay-Z are his favourite rappers.

According to the global icon, Vybz Kartel’s language is difficult to understand. However, Vybz Kartel is ‘mad’ with dancehall styles.

“My favourite rappers are Vybz Kartel, I like him, and I guess Jay-Z,” Mick Jagger said. The veteran could hardly pronounce the deejay’s name, however, he went on to explain the difference between Vybz kartel and Jay-Z.

“One is very different from the other. Jay-Z’s got this whole body of work and he’s put himself together with great tunes as well, and Vybz Kartel is just completely mad dancehall and totally different. It’s very difficult to understand a word he says until you’ve heard it about 100 times,” he said laughing.

Mick Jagger was participating in a question-and-answer session on Twitter recently. The Rolling Stones are no strangers to Jamaican music. in 1978, their record label contracted reggae legend Peter Tosh and released his album Bush Doctor, introducing the artiste to a larger audience.

The album also featured Mick Jagger and fellow Rolling Stones member Keith Richards. The lead single, a cover version of The Temptations effort Don’t Look Back, was also performed as a duet with Jagger. Keith Richards also co-produced and played on reggae artiste Max Romeo’s album Holding Out My Love to You.

This is not the first time that an international act has given props to Vybz Kartel for his work. American rapper Busta Rhymes also told US-based website VLADTV.com, that the artiste was intriguing.

“The thing I found more intriguing is how he was able to evolve what the now reggae artiste should be like, whether you agree with it or you don’t. His perspective of what the now reggae artiste should be is what differentiates him from everything that I have seen a long time in reggae artistes. He understands how to incorporate shock value with incredible music. He does things on the shock value level that we might look at as very crazy.” Busta Rhymes said.

Vybz Kartel Juror Trial: Cops Cannot Provide Cellphone evidence

Police officers dealt the defense a big blow today in the Vybz Kartel corrupt juror trial.

On Wednesday cops told the court that they were unable to provide cellphone data critical to the case. The prosecutor in the trial said that she received the letter for the police department this morning but could not provide any more details.

Last month, a judge made a ruling in the ongoing juror corruption trial for the call data to be made available to the defense.

Juror Livingston Caine is on trial on multiple counts of perverting the course of justice after he allegedly trial to bribe other members of the juror during the Vybz Kartel high profile murder trial last year.

Caine was the only juror voted not guilty in the case the sent the dancehall icon to prison on a life sentence.

Defense attorney Valerie Neita-Robertson grilled one witness on the stand on whether or not jurors were contacted by phone to serve on the jury for the highly publicised murder trial.

Those are the startling numbers that indicate the scale of the devastation from the huge earthquake that struck the Himalayan nation on Saturday.

And some of the grim figures are likely to get even worse as hopes of rescuing any more survivors diminish every hour.

Heartbreaking scenes of suffering and loss are playing out across this shell-shocked nation as it reels from its deadliest natural disaster in more than 80 years.

As the country coped with the fallout of the quake, another natural disaster struck Tuesday afternoon in a popular trekking area north of Kathmandu, and up to 200 people were feared missing as a result of a landslide, a trekking association official said.

It happened around 4 p.m. in Langtang National Park, said Ramesh Dhamala, president of the Trekking Agents of Nepal. Laxmi Dhakal, spokesman for Nepal’s Home Ministry, said he was aware of reports about the landslide but wasn’t immediately able to confirm details.

Quake relief efforts continued Tuesday, but officials warned that they were hampered by problems of getting aid into the country and then delivering it to some of the remote communities in desperate need.

In Kathmandu, a capital city of shattered temples and toppled houses, some people paid their last respects to loved ones taken by the quake.

By the Bagmati River, which winds through the city, more than a dozen funeral pyres burned Monday.

As workers stoked the flames for the Hindu cremation ceremonies, some mourners shaved their heads in a traditional show of mourning from children who lose their parents.

Alongside their father, two teenage brothers from the Gurung family, Ishan and Iman, said goodbye to their mother, Ishara.

“We never imagined this would happen to us. This much pain,” said Ishan, the elder of the two.

Producer Justus Disses Rvssian and i-octane on Twitter

Heavyweight producer Justus Arison has launched a scathing attack on rival record producer Rvssian, following his comments targeting recording artiste Chronixx.

According to an outspoken Justus, via his Twitter account, Rvssian has lost his grip on production since Vybz Kartel’s incarceration.

“Me nuh stay like some bwoy weh need Kartel songs fi stay afloat. Me nah no don except the most high. Me nuh follow back a man, Rvssian flop from Go Go Club rhythm. Dem sell out Chronixx fi lack of rice and peas,” Justus Arison, producer of the internationally acclaimed Overproof rhythm, tweeted.

Arison was seemingly upset due to Rvssian’s recent Instagram rant, during which he targeted Chronixx and even called the reggae artiste a waste man.

“Rvssian is a dunce idiot weh frighten fi people though. Worse off him deeven live a Jamaica. Mention him fi mi too please. Tell him seh Justus seh him is a waste man eediat weh sell out Jamaica fi Spanish girl,” Arison tweeted.

Rvssian, in what is believed to be a response, apparently referring to him as a kid. However Justus swiftly countered.

“Rvssian a call me kiddo though? Memba seh my age group only know u as Kibibi likkle bredda. I might as well be a damn senior citizen,” he tweeted.

Justus Arison also launched an attack on I-Octane, whom he believes is overrated.

“High Froctane? How can people vote for I-Oxtail as Singjay of the year? He barely had any major songs last year…,” he tweeted.

Kalado stumbled on top of a female patron in Guyana... Unfortunate yet funny

Dancehall Star Kalado had a unfortunate but funny incident during his performance in Guyana on Sunday. The venue, Club Monaco located in Georgetown, was packed to capacity as patrons came out in their numbers to see Kalado perform for the first time in Guyana as a headline act, and what a performance it was.

The artist was in the middle of a stellar performance of his hit single ‘make me feel’ when he suddenly lost balance and stumbled on top of a female patron…much to the delight of the crowd and not surprisingly the patron.

The artist soon got up, helped her up and apologised…but to his surprise her response was, ‘lets do it again’. Along with the crowd, Kalado laughed and resumed his performance with the single he recently shot a video for ‘Fling it Anywhere’. The fan reception was overwhelming as Kalado gave them a performance worth every penny paid.

Rap artist, movie producer, actor, and extraordinaire Curtis Jackson aka 50 cent is in Jamaica for the weekend. It is not surprising that he is having a wonderful time because we have some of the best vacation spots and beaches in the caribbean.

Bobbi Kristina Is Awake From Coma.. Says Bobby Brown

Bobby Brown says daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown “is awake” after spending nearly three months in a coma on life support.

“I can say today Bobbi is awake,” Brown said in a 15-second video clip posted on TMZ that was recorded during a concert Saturday in Dallas, Texas.

The recording shows the crowd erupting in raucous cheers — nearly drowning out Brown’s more cryptic message. “She’s watching me,” he says.

Bobbi Kristina, 21, is the only child of Brown and late singing legend Whitney Houston. She has been in a medically induced coma since she was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her Roswell, Ga., home Jan. 31.

Brown’s news was a surprise after he made despairing public comments earlier this month.

Rvssian says... Dear "MR WASTEMAN Chronixx"

Chronixx continues to be a hot topic since making the ‘waste man’ comment that was seemingly aimed at US President Barack Obama.

In addition to being discussed on radio shows hosted by Barry G and Mutabaruka, producer Rvssian, of head Concussion Records, also took to social media to address the comments made by Chronixx.

Last week, Rvssian posted a video with Barack Obama and sprinter Usain Bolt greeting each other, that was followed by a lengthy post about what Chronixx said.

“Big up to @UsainBolt @BarackObama. Thank you for having a great sense of humour with my Jamaican people. Now, Dear “MR WASTEMAN Chronixx” … Same guy who said on HYPE TV “mi will sell out mi friends and family for little or nothing before mi sell out jah”. Well sir, if you sell out those two people, you just sell out Jah/God. I’m not saying I’m the biggest Obama supporter but you as a man who has a ‘voice’ and claim you’re a ‘Rasta’ should practice ‘unity’ instead of ‘division’,” he said in the post.

“You’re also giving Jamaicans a bad name as supposedly being a role model. You’re also glorying Marcus Garvey. Just like President Obama he has flaws (he did his little black star line Ponzi scheme), but no man is perfect. A you shoulda name ‘Mr Perfect’? Next ting nuh you did perform on America’s Jimmy Fallon show? Better watch you mouth before you lose the U.S. visa & won’t be able to count the US dollars. Also, if you stand by your words, why you delete the post? You just sell yourself short. Doesn’t take a rasta to bun a fire? P.S. it’s not a white or black or religion thing [because] my father is a rasta and I grew up in that.”

However, there was no response from Chronixx, despite being tagged in comments being made by various persons.

The whole issue came to the fore last week when Chronixx posted a picture of Marcus Garvey on Instagram, stating that the national hero still had a criminal record in the United States while “we glorifying some waste man!”

Since the post, Twin of Twin’s Patrick Gaynor also chimed in on Instagram yesterday.

“In my opinion, the Chronixx situation is a reminder that Jamaica is truly NOT the free society it claims to be. While I understand where his statement might seem abrasive, any historically enlightened person can understand the intention of his statement and know it just did not come out right,” he said.

He also said there seems to be “a selective process in Jamaica as it relates to the voice of other individuals or groups who are given free reign to express their opinions even in offence of others?”

He also questioned why Culture Minister Lisa Hanna was so caught up with Chronixx, while there are other serious issues not being addressed.

In the lengthy post, Gaynor also said, “Slavery has never ended, the slave masters merely shifted perspective. Just like the official institution of slavery, the slaves are still being kept apart by forcing them to place value on the least of things, and by things, I mean material.”

He continued, “The rebellious ones are still being beaten into submission by a system that offers what may seem like a better alternative which is to look out only for self. Four of the biggest problems with this country are: classism, illiteracy, disunity, and indiscipline. Jamaica has lost it’s moral compass.”

Devious Debuts New Video for “Dream Girl”

Clean Money entertainment artiste De’Vious is getting ready to drop the video for his smashing dancehall hit “Dream Girl.”

The song has since been doing extremely well on the local scene and has been spreading like wild fire in Caribbean.

He shared “Dream Girl” is a song for the ladies and they have been requesting the video so I just had to deliver.”

The video was filmed under the direction of Craig Clean Money, who also came up with the concept of the storyline and was edited by Simeon di Great.

The concept of the story line follows De’Vious and his dream girl on a casual outing and then flashes back a month before when he meets her for the first time. The video plays on the idea of the “dream girl,” as his ideal woman.

The artiste who is currently working with M.I.A. Production is confident that the video will be well received by his growing fan base.

“I have a team that is working overtime and I am very confident that this video will get out there the right way.”

The majority of the video was shot on a popular beach in Portmore, other scenes were shot in a local hotel and Fierce by Dre store.

“Tom Cruise” is the name of the latest dance move that’s taking over the dancehall scene, especially in London. KMG Records has released the catchy new song regarding this craze. Don Andre, controversial artiste based in the United Kingdom penned the lyrics for the tune. Since it’s release it has been gaining momentum online, making it’s way to become the next viral sensation.

Several popular dancers, such as dancehall queen Nickeisha, have endorsed the move by creating their own videos displaying how the movement is done. Dancehall King, Short Man recently demonstrated the “Tom Cruise” move in Sweden, where it was well received.

Don Andre expressed that he is, “Ecstatic, overwhelmed, delighted! I don’t think that there are enough words to explain the feeling I have towards the response of Tom Cruise. A lot of persons may not know, but Mr Holness has a deep appreciation for Jamaican music and culture,” Morgan said. He added that Holness made an appearance on TVJ’s Intense and has also been to other entertainment events.

Holness also recently interviewed veteran dancehall artiste Shabba Ranks in a discussion that included happenings in Jamaica, music, Olympic Gardens and the artiste’s career. The interview was posted to the opposition leader’s Facebook page on April 2.

“Mr Holness is someone who understands the importance of culture, importance of reggae music and the importance of dancehall, not only as a means of people enjoying themselves, but as an economic opportunity. The music industry is one of the biggest industries in the world. One of the things Mr Holness is interested in is putting forward policies to make Jamaican music more popular and stronger,” he said.

Singer Percy Sledge dies at age 73

Percy Sledge, the soul singer who took “When a Man Loves a Woman” to the top of the charts in 1966, died this morning at his Baton Rouge home. He was 73.

Reports are that Sledge died of natural causes while under hospice care.

Prior to becoming a recording artist, Sledge worked as a hospital nurse. He caught his big break when he recorded “When a Man Loves a Woman.” The track soared to number-one on both the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent two weeks at the summit, and on the Billboard R&B Chart, where it held the top spot for six weeks.

Thursday will mark the 49th anniversary of the release of “When a Man Loves a Woman” as a single.

Thousands turned up for Pandemonium

Pandemonium has again given soca fans a taste of what they will be getting at the conclusion of this year’s carnival season, by treating the crowd to energetic performances and hit soca music.

Hosted at Hope Gardens Thursday night, Pandemonium managed to pull a strong turnout, despite being hosted on a regular working day.

The event was being hosted at this venue for the first time, and the promoters went all out with their production, using huge metallic gadgets to create a fence, which guarded the main stage, and various lit signs and screens erected in the venue.

The DJ was in his element, engaging patrons with hard-core soca music and getting them to gyrate and jump to songs like Vagabond by Ricardo Drue, Cloud 9 by Lyrikal and Phenomenal by Benjai.

At midnight, soca giant Machel Montano was introduced to perform by Miss Kitty. Dressed in full black, wearing a T-shit labelled ‘Like Ah Boss’, the artiste immediately got to business, performing the popular single of the same name. Machel Montano also delivered songs like Happiest Man Alive, among others. He was also joined by Shaggy, Angela Hunte, and Sean Paul, who each received strong responses for their display.

Telecommunications company Digicel had promotional ladies parading the party wearing red costumes for the entire night.

The event concluded abruptly at minutes after 1 a.m., with patrons begging for more. Even after the music stopped and the lights went dull on the main stage, patrons still stood their ground, hoping the organisers would be given extra time to continue the event. Danielia McLean, sponsorship executive at Digicel, says Sunday will be the ultimate climax.

“We are delighted that we were able to end the 2015 Digicel/Appleton Carnival ‘Pon Di Road’ series on such a high note at Pandemonium with one of Soca’s greatest, Machel Montano. We’ve been bringing the Carnival spirit right across Jamaica, and our customers have absolutely enjoyed the vibes and the energy at each event.

“Now, we’re just really excited about the rest of the events lined up for Carnival week, and we can’t wait to ‘chip down di road’ with our customers at the Bacchanal Road March on Sunday,” She said.

Bob Marley museum trended online after Obama’s visit

Reggae icon Bob Marley trended on social media recently, as US President Barack Obama made a surprise visit to the Bob Marley museum on 56 Hope Road, Kingston 6.

“We are trending in Jamaica and the world online. Bob Marley’s legacy has always been relevant, and a visit from the President after hours solidifies that.

“It must have been on top of his ‘things-to-do list’ because the museum was his first stop after what must have been a long day,” Debby Bissoon, brand manager at Bob Marley Group of Companies, told The STAR.

According to Bissoon, while they were told that President Obama would eventually turn up at the museum, there were early indications that something special was about to happen.

“There were some signs. Our security team and staff are very keen on detail. So we had some visitors who toured the museum, who may not have looked all the way ‘touristy’, so we tried to connect the dots as best as we could. but with the President, you can never be too sure,” she said.

“The former television host also revealed that the staff at the Bob Marley museum were honoured to share the same roof with the first US president of African lineage.

“We are very honoured to be a part of such a rich legacy. Our CEO, Cedella Marley, allows us to feel like we are a part of that legacy; and so, we know the responsibility we have. Instagram connects Trinidad & England for a true fairytale love story

It wasn’t quite love at first sight but Gregory Prescott and Toni Archer-Prescott’s love story reads like a real life fairytale.



A chance meeting on Instagram in March last year has resulted in a proposal, a wedding and a honeymoon. The newlyweds who tied the knot on March 15 believe that they have found their happily ever after – and it all began with a simple post about coffee.



“One day I posted my coffee on Instagram with a caption saying if I don’t have one of these every morning my co-workers walk on egg shells around me. Some days after I saw a notification from Toni T Berry (Archer-Prescott’s Instagram name) a London native, who commented on the post. She said if she doesn’t have her vanilla latte every morning she’s like a pitbull coming off steroids,” recalls Prescott, a DJ at Sangeet 106 fm, who goes by his sobriquet DJ Simply E.

“I thought that was so hilarious. I clicked on her profile and I saw she posted a video. I commented on it and told her I loved her accent. She replied saying she loved my Trini accent too.”



Two weeks later, the father of three recorded a 15 second video thanking Archer-Prescott for her “Instagram shout outs.” Flattered that Prescott took the time to recognise her comments, Archer-Prescott, a receptionist at the National Health Service in England, reached out to him again, this time asking if she could add him as a friend on another social networking site – Facebook.

“We would message each other periodically. There was never any real attraction between us,” she admits.



That is, until Prescott added her to his contact list on BlackBerry Messenger (BBM).



“That first night, we messaged each other all night. I didn’t sleep at all. I went to work the next day without even closing my eyes,” she notes.

“We spoke every day after that, about anything and everything. From that first conversation on BBM I knew there was something there. We never got bored of each other. What I loved about him was that there was no sleaziness. He never came at me in a sexual way. He wanted to get to know me, genuinely.”



Despite being 4, 000 miles away and having a five hour time-difference, the two became inseparable.



“I admired her strength but it was her humility that caught me. The fact that she’s always smiling despite the things she’s been through. I loved everything about her.”



After three months of virtual courting, Prescott, 43, decided to take matters into his own hands. He bought Archer-Prescott a commitment ring and sent to her via mail. He also bought a ticket to London for a ten –day trip. Two months after purchasing the ticket, Prescott arrived in London where he saw his future wife in person for the first time.



“The money I used to buy the ticket was money I set aside to buy a piece of music equipment but seeing her was more important,” he says.





“When she picked me up at the airport and we had our first kiss, I knew then and there that she was the woman for me. It felt like we knew each other for years.”



Archer-Prescott, 38, introduced Prescott to her entire family, including her two teenaged children.



“Everybody loved him. They all knew him from our video chats so he fit right in,” she asserts. The couple would be apart again until March 1 this year when Archer – Prescott, who had never traveled outside of the UK, flew to Trinidad for two days for Prescott’s birthday.

They then visited Barbados for a vacation. It was there Prescott proposed. Twelve days later, the two sealed the deal with a small, intimate wedding on the front porch of Prescott’s Arima home in the presence of his family and closest friends.

“It was a beautiful day. Everybody got involved to assist with the wedding. The outpouring of love and support we have received is amazing,” Archer-Prescott says.

Although the couple will have to rely on Instagram and social media a little while longer as Archer-Prescott has gone back to London, they vow to make things work until Prescott migrates there at the end of the year.

“Long-distance relationships only make sense if there’s a plan to end the distance and we have a plan,” Prescott says.



“We are soul mates. We are two hearts but one soul. This is the woman I have always been waiting for. Every day I look at her and every day I fall in love.”
