Demarco Celebrates Birthday, Calls Out Some Dancehall Artistes, Says 'Kartel a the greatest!'

Demarco who recently released his latest musical endeavour with Pablo YG titled 'Count We Out' took to social media hours ago to talk about his plans for music and remind fans that he's celebrating his birthday on September 28, he did so with a bottle in hand, outlining during the live chat that he was "drunk".

Aside from talking about himself, the 42-year-old deejay highlighted that Vybz Kartel is second to none with regard to Dancehall music and his "will power and mindset".

According to Demarco, he will strategically be releasing music periodically because he doesn't want to release too much music and they fall on "deaf ears". On the other hand, he also contemplated releasing a lot of music in a short period of time because he has too many stored.

"How can a man deh inna a prison cell bro and hear seh yuh have life inna prison... and you gi the world some bombocl**t music fi blood**t dance to and you a nuh the greatest?... bro him a the greatest mi nuh give a f**k all me seh me a the baddest thing, Kartel a the greatest thing!" Demarco said.

Demarco

He next highlights Kartel's "mindset" and "work ethics" as plausible reasons for him to be labelled as great. In defence of Kartel's frequent posts on social media, Demarco dissed all the critics who believe that the 48-year-old should post less on social media.

"Bro inspire mi dawg nah tell no lie... no lie... you a the greatest inna Dancehall... I want to be like that, and mi ago learn it," he said.

Further on in the live chat Demarco called for "structure" in Dancehall, outlining that the industry is too "divided". The veteran states that until Dancehall get more "professional" things won't improve. "That a the only thing weh a beat Dancehall is the business," he declares.

He also urged young artistes to get entertainment lawyers, highlighting that they are missing out on gains because of the lack of structure. Demarco blamed the ego of some of the young artistes in Dancehall as a major problem. Before completing his statement on the matter, he shared multiple examples.

"Mi wah si dem reach far bro... unun fi stop dem f**kry yah dem crab inna barrel mentality... too divided yow."

Sandra Rose Talks Music, Vybz Kartel, Nigy Boy, Growing up in St. Ann etc: Interview

Sandra Rose Talks Music, Vybz Kartel, Nigy Boy, Growing up in St. Ann etc: Interview

Despite people's preconceptions about her, Dancehall artiste Sandra Rose is far from the wealthy pretty girl many view her as. She discussed her father being incarcerated for drug trafficking, her mother being a model, herself modelling, her music, and meeting Vybz Kartel in a new interview.

A native of St. Ann, Sandra Rose was born and raised in Jamaica before moving to Canada in 2012. Following in the footsteps of her mother, the young artiste first pursued a career in modelling, a career she maintained for a decade before pursuing music.

In addition to appearing in fashion shows and magazines, she has also appeared in music videos for the likes of DJ Khaled and Charly Black. Despite not taking music seriously until 2024, Sandra Rose shared in an interview with The Fix podcast that she has been making her own music since childhood.

During the interview, Sandra said it was working with Charly Black on one of his music videos that pushed her to launch her career as a singer in Dancehall. The artiste went on to share that she uses music as an outlet to express herself, as she does not like to talk about her childhood.

Sandra Rose

The first of three children for her mother, Sandra Rose is the daughter of Canadian drug trafficker Robert Bidewell, who she disclosed spent eight years in jail after being convicted for his crimes. She further shared that she had to move to Canada to ease the financial burden on her mother.

However, after living with her father for a year, she ended up in the foster care system.

"Everybody looks at me, and they're like, 'Oh, she's rich. Shi born rich. Shi born in a wealth. Shi have gold spoon,' I sent myself to college. I got pregnant right out of high school, and I still sent myself to college pregnant, doing two jobs while I was pregnant," Sandra Rose said.

Sandra went on to joke that she wished that her father still had the money he attained, but his assets were taken after his incarceration. The mom of one also talked about her dating life and dispelled rumours that she is dating Nigy Boy.

Nigy Boy and Sandra RoseNigy Boy and Sandra Rose

According to the Whiplash singer, she would never date someone in the music industry.

"We can't have the same lifestyle. If I'm going to settle down with somebody you can't do music it sound selfish but yuh can't do music to. Yuh affi just do yuh own ting, be on the low. Mi like a man weh just laid back and chill," Sandra stated.

The artiste, who was recently spotted partying with Vybz Kartel, also spoke about meeting the deejay for the first time. Sandra Rose described Kartel's energy as immaculate, and it was as if the pair had known each other for years.

2 Goals for Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw as Man City Qualifies for Women's Champions League

Jamaican top striker Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw was on target twice on Thursday, helping Manchester City Women's team qualify for the Women's Champions League group stages, having failed to do so last year.

Her two goals which included a penalty and a strike from inside the box helped the WSL team beat French team Paris FC 3-0. Chloe Kelly scored City's first goal, she also assisted one of Shaw's goals.

"Bunny" Shaw did not play the first leg of the encounter which ended in a 5-0 victory for City, because her visa was not sorted in time for her to play in that game.

Nevertheless, she was present in the Joie Stadium(home to Manchester City Women's team). Arsenal was also victorious on the day, causing them to also qualify for the Women's Champions League group stages.

Shaw is expected to play her next game in the Women's Super League on Sunday vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

Elaine Thompson-Herah ‘living her best life’ Following Disappointing Track Season: Video

As Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah continues recovery following an injury-riddled track season which caused her to miss the Paris Olympic Games, she is also pencilling in some time for leisure.

The 32-year-old shared a reel on Instagram earlier today enjoying a myriad of outdoor activities including horse-back riding on the beach, swinging from a rope above a river, and riding an ATV. She noted that she was happy to complete some bucket-list items in her very own country, although social media users could see that she was hesitating to swing from the rope. Who knows, maybe she’s afraid of heights?

Regardless, it was a joy to behold the sprint queen having an amazing time. She was glad in a black bodysuit and matching black sneakers— the perfect fit for a day filled with outdoor adventure!

“I really had a time of my life and I did tick some fears off my list ✌🏾,” she began in the caption.

Added the athlete: “If you want the BEST & FUN adventures tour book my brother @vipjam_downtours.ja We island Likkle and nice 🇯🇲 😉.”

Her online followers enjoyed seeing her have a blast.

One user commented, “Watch the fastest woman alive inna mi place. Spanish Bridge rope swing is undefeated.”

Meanwhile, another said, “Have fun Queen @fastelaine love how you’re enjoying yourself in YOUR very own country 😍”

Thompson-Herah was one of several athletes who participated in the World Continental Tour Gold 100m meet in New York back in June. After finishing last, the sprinter began showing signs of an injury and had to be carried out of the Icahn Stadium.

She has since been focused on her wellness and recovery.

PM Holness Demanded to Justify US$143,000 Transaction From SSL to His NCB Account

PM Holness Demanded to Justify US$143,000 Transaction From SSL to His NCB Account

Deputy Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate and Opposition Spokesperson for Justice and Gender Affairs Donna Scott-Mottley is demanding that Prime Minister Andrew Holness justify a hefty one-time transaction that occurred from Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL) into his NCB account in late 2021.

Scott- Mottley was speaking during the latest hosting of the People’s Parliament which aired on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

“It was opened with no money in it, and I didn’t know you could open an account with no money in it. A couple of days later, there was a deposit of a little over US$143,000 which came from SSL and in the context of the conversations we’ve been having about SSL, I believe that the prime minister needs to address this and explain how and why that money came into his account from SSL."

"It was deeply concerning to me, and I’m sure it was deeply concerning to all the people who not only lost money, and you know the number one concern is what happened to Bolt’s money,” she reasoned with PNP leader Mark Golding, Opposition Senator Peter Bunting, as well as Shadow Minister of Finance, Planning and the Public Service Julian Robinson who were also present.

SSL has been under continuous scrutiny since early last year when it was discovered that the trusted institution was steeped in a fraud scheme that was later revealed to surpass USD$30M with over 200 client accounts affected by the fraud. Retired sprinting superstar Usain Bolt was among the lot and has, to this day, yet to be repaid $12 billion.

Meanwhile, Scott-Mottley was quick to declare that she is not insinuating any similarities between the huge fraud bust, and the prime minister’s ‘shady’ transaction, but insisted that Jamaicans at home and in the diaspora deserve transparency.

She further said that the opposition is reviewing the legislation associated with the IC Act, in response to Holness’ declaration that he too is doing reviews to see if there are possibilities to make amendments.

“We have a joint selection committee which is reviewing the Integrity Commissions Act.. we are contemplating what sort of laws we would want to see in legislation, Scott-Mottley said, adding that she agrees that the statutory declaration process is “invasive” and “uncomfortable”. However, she believes that despite the discomfort, transparency and accountability should always prevail.

She also called upon citizens to press for continued clarity on matters of governance so that the country can improve.

“This country needs to be aware that they are the ones who determine what kind of Jamaica we have… if we don’t hold our leaders to a higher standard of accountability, all we will have is a declining sense of morality. The public needs to get involved in refining this country in the way that it needs to be done…”

Masicka Finally Added to Vybz Kartel's Top-5 Dancehall Lyricists

Vybz Kartel has been reluctant to call many fellow artistes' names, while he has been consistently shouting out Skillibeng and Spice amongst others since his prison release. Days ago the Portmore deejay listed his top five Dancehall lyricists 'from his time until now'.

The names mentioned included Chronic Law, Skillibeng, Assassin and Aidonia. During the interview on The Brando Music Review show, the 48-year-old struggled to call a fifth name which sparked debates online with most people mentioning that "Masicka" should have been mentioned.

Agreeing with the majority, Vybz Kartel followed up on Tuesday, adding Masicka to the list as the 'honourable mention'. The declaration was made during a live chat on TikTik in which he was told to 'Bigup" several communities, countries and artistes.

Masicka's name was mentioned in the comment to which Kartel responded by saying, "Big up Masicka, my dawg dem affi live, yuh done know that man." "Hear the fifth lyricist deh weh mi vote een, suh it was wah Donia, Sassin, Law Boss, Skillibeng, Masicka... mi dog dem affi live!"

The dynamic singer recently released a catchy single entitled "Never Gonna Leave" which has been enjoying rotation locally and internationally. According to the singer, he is passionate about preserving the authentic Reggae sound.

"I am a well traveled artiste and I have seen the power of Reggae first hand which is why I don't deviate too far from the original sound because that is the primary sound the world wants to hear from Jamaica. Every where in the world I perform our beloved Reggae music I am well received. My aim is to continue making my contribution to the genre and add my spice to an already tasty Reggae menu," Stated Junior Culture.

The Reggae stalwart says he has toured extensively in Europe and other parts of the world and has shared the stage with some of the all-time greats but at present, he is focused on promoting his brand locally to reconnect with his core audience.

Junelle Bromfield Contemplating Not Representing Jamaica on the Track

Junelle Bromfield Contemplating Not Representing Jamaica on the Track

Following months of online bullying, Jamaican runner Junelle Bromfield is now unsure of her future as a representative of Jamaica as it relates to sports.

During the height of the Olympics, while most athletes enjoyed praise from their fellow countrymen, Bromfield faced attacks online as her loyalty to Jamaica was questioned by local athletic fans. Bromfield is scheduled to share her story on Sim Soul Sessions, which is hosted by veteran broadcaster Simone Clarke.

Ahead of the interview, Clarke shared a sneak peek and some behind-the-scenes look at their interview on Friday. Unlike previous episodes of Sim Soul Sessions, Bromfield was interviewed not in Jamaica but in Orlando and can be seen on the show's impromptu set with Noah Lyles.

According to Clarke, after watching the backlash unfold, she invited Bromfield to come on her programme. However, due to the death threats and continued bullying, the athlete is now afraid to return to Jamaica.

Determined to have her share her story, Clarke flew to Orlando to interview Bromfield, who also spoke on the loss of her mother and two brothers during the show. Captioning a video post in which Bromfield said she had to disable her inbox because of multiple threats, Clarke shared that the runner is contemplating her future as a Jamaican athlete.

" She’s now processing the fire from a fan base that has questioned her loyalty to country out of the recently held Olympics. She wasn’t ready for the online hate and hurt hurled at her - from her own people. Cyberbullying, colorism, and even death threats. It has all left her questioning her future in track, not only whether she wants to do it anymore, but if she wants to do it for Jamaica," Clarke wrote.

Dalton Harris Bashes Bounty Killer after Winning Award for LGBTQ+ Documentary: "I won’t change"

Dalton Harris Bashes Bounty Killer after Winning Award for LGBTQ+ Documentary:

Digicel Rising Star winner Dalton Harris is now an award-winning producer and has doubled down, saying that he will not be changing just to please his Jamaican critics.

Dalton, who is also a past winner of the UK's X Factor, produced and created the documentary Dalton's Dream. His documentary was crowned the 2024 Best Documentary at Miami's Outshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

In a lengthy statement on Facebook, the singer expressed awe following his award win. Dalton, who has faced backlash since coming out as gay, also addressed his critics, declaring that the joke is on them as he has accomplished so much and continues to do well.

"I have accomplished so much.  More than most your children you raised yet you come on social media to tell me what I should or shouldn’t be doing. And use God as an excuse. Please don’t waste your time. I won’t change," Dalton wrote.

Recollecting the hardships of his childhood, he further expressed that his critics could only have a right to tell him what to do if they could go through what he has and still accomplish what he has. Dalton shared that he was abused both physically and emotionally by his mother, who made him believe that he was ugly and often left him bloodied and scarred.

According to Harris, after years of being neglected and ill-treated, he was kicked out by his mother. Yet the singer says he returned to help his family, including his mother, whom he has since reconciled with.

Dalton went on to highlight all the hard work he has put into his life and career, emphasising that he was able to migrate legally without the help of family or a sham marriage. The singer also called out Bounty Killer, who criticised him when rumours first began to spread that he is gay.

"I worked hard and have great agents and I don’t yell into a microphone on a board stage then say pull up like bounty killer the man who I don’t know but had so much to say to his little audience. That’s when I realized I was on a different level. And doing something big cuz I’m in his mouth like vagina," Dalton wrote.
