Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce opens 2015 with win

Jamaican sprint star Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce got her campaign up and running in 2015 with an impressive run over 60 metres at the Queens/Grace Jackson Track Meet at the National Stadium.


Fraser-Pryce, the World Indoor 60m champion and World sprint double champion, won the event in 7.13 seconds, two hundredth of a second slower than 2014.


She finished ahead of MVP training partner Elaine Thompson who claimed was second in 7.33.


In the men’s event, Nesta Carter won in 6.53 ahead of his training partners Julian Forte 6.58 and Kimarly Brown 6.59.


Earlier former Munro College student Delano Williams opened his 2015 season with a record run to beat one of many records held by track and field legend Usain Bolt.


Williams, running under Great Britain, the country he represented at the last 2013 Moscow World Championships, won the men’s 400m in 46.20 to beat the previous record of 46.94, which Bolt ran to win the event in 2008.





Jowayne Hibbert of University of West Indies Mona Campus finished second in 47.20 while third went to Jonia McDonald of University of Technology (UTech) 47.38.
