Reggae powerhouse label VP Records is getting called out once again for shady business . This time the label is being accuse by Mr Vegas for failing to pay him is royalties and stealing millions from other Dancehall and Reggae artists .
Vegas took to his facebook page to detail VP Records shady business practices and warn other artists not to do business with VP, These type of allegations are nothing new to the label , VP as been accuse over the years of not paying artist and producers what they are owed and under marketing their albums . check out what Mr Vegas had to say below.

VP RECORDS.
Today I received an email from my attorney, stating how difficult and expensive it would be, to take the fight further with VP records.
This is my second attorney, that is giving me this news, after spending thousands of dollars in legal fees.
In 1998/99, I signed a publishing agreement with Greensleeves records.
My deal is a 75/25 deal, with the higher portion to me.
VP Records bought Greensleeves records over 5 years ago and since then, it has been nothing but an uphill battle to collect publishing money.
The latest tactic that VP record is using, is, claiming that titles that they own are being administered by other administrator, so they have to hold onto monies owed.
There is nothing in my contract that states that Greensleeves who I signed my deal with, can hold onto any monies owed, if titles are mixed up. VP is only taking this route, because they do not want to pay monies owed to artists.
I have since ask my new admin, Jack Russell, to turn over all titles that they are claiming, belongs to them.
That was done, but VP records still has not turned over full payment.
I made a phone call the boss, Chris Chin and told him what was going on, he told me, he would look into it and get back to me.
I am still on the waiting list for over 1 year.
This is a wake up call to all performers, your publishing is your pension, do not let VP records steal it!
The new tactic that they are trying to use, is ridiculous!
Titles get mixed up all the time in our industry (dancehall/reggae).
The producers sometimes label the song with a different title than what the artist gives his publishers, visa versa.
If your publisher see your material out there that no one is administering, they will add that title to your catalog.
If another admin comes forward and can prove that, the title is a part of their deal, then it is turned over.
This should not give any publishers or administrators any right to hold onto performers money.
VP records has held onto millions of dollars in royalties from dancehall/reggae artists.
They do not pay artists royalties.
Their claims are, they pay the producers for the materials they are selling, with artists likeness and images.
They can do this, because they are PROTECTED by our own music law in Jamaica, that states, “The Producers that provides the tapes owns the masters…” giving the artists no rights to the masters.
When VP records bought Greensleeves, they knew most of the Dancehall/Reggae artists had publishing contracts with Greensleeves Rec.
They knew they have been getting away with NOT paying artists royalties on sales of records for years, so why not get a hold on artists publishing as well.
They knew that in order to take them to court, to get your money or your titles back, you would need to do that in a UK Court and most artists do not have the resources to put up a good fight.
I can’t tell you where to take your business, but with dancehall/reggae music out of Jamaica not selling and shows are drying up, you may want to think hard before giving your business to VP records.
I use to get all my money that was due, before VP bought Greensleeves, now they hold onto monies owed and send a small percentage, for me to keep quite.
It is time to come together artists, and writers!

Mr. Vegas and Pitbull’s single ‘My Jam’ Scores Big!
Kingston, Jamaica, April 10, 2015- International recording artiste Mr. Vegas has once again given the masses something to talk about. Within five days after his ‘My Jam’ video premiered on Zumba’s YouTube Channel, it scored over 137,000 views and now scoring over 150,000 views. The feel good single ‘My Jam’ featuring Pitbull was chosen by Zumba to celebrate ‘World Happiness Day’, an annual event held on March 20th.
Mr. Vegas shared that he was ‘excited’ to work with Pitbull as he has given the song much more life and has added his worldwide appeal to it. He added, “My Jam is very upbeat and fun; its purpose is to bring joy and happiness to all who listen”. Most recently, Mr. Vegas performed at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas as a part of their newly established Sounds from the Caribbean showcase. His performance of the hit song ‘My Jam’ among other classics such ‘Heads High’ and ‘I’m Blessed’ were all well received. Large Up, the media sponsor at the event described Vegas’ performance as a ‘tough act to follow’. Even days after his performance fans were still in awe, one tweeted “Mr Vegas is the best performer in the whole industry”.
The contributions of Mr. Vegas to the music industry and to the fans, have surely not gone unnoticed as he has also been featured in international entertainment magazines inclusive of OK Magazine, USA Star, Radar Online and many more in the past week.

Mr. Vegas"s Hot Magnum Riddim Project
The highly anticipated project from MV Music and affiliated brand Team Street Hustle is here to start the Dancehall year on a steamy note. Mr Vegas has now officially released the Hot Magnum project that features three suggestively stimulating singles which showcase the sexy side of dancehall.
In production since early 2014, Hot Magnum had originally been composed as a collaboration single to feature Kranium and Mr Vegas himself, but over the months evolved into the three track compilation. The project features ‘Luv Song’ a track with Mr Vegas, Lady Saw and American rapper Krystal Lareign, a version of this song also made it to Mr Vegas’ Reggae Euphoria Album project that was released in September 2014.
Latty J and Kranium’s single ‘Love it when you talk to me’ also sparked some controversy last year in the production stages when Kranium voiced concerns about collaborating with Latty J on the single. With both Latty J and Kranium being nominated as Breakout Celebrities for 2014 in the Jamaican based 2015 Youth View Awards; it’s clear that both artistes have received notoriety and validate Mr Vegas’ decision to pair the two on this particular track.
The final song in the Hot Magnum set is Mr Vegas’s steamy single ‘On My Shoulder’ with sweltering visuals to boot. Directed by Jay Will’s ‘Game Over’ Films, the video epitomizes the essence of the song itself; an intimate pairing of two individuals who enjoy each other’s company and are not afraid to get adventurous with it.
“The song is sexy without being crass or vulgar and so the visuals had to match it as well. Dancehall can be sexy and sophisticated too, not every interaction is hardcore so I wanted to bring that out in this song and this overall project” Mr Vegas mentioned
‘On My Shoulder’ which samples 1960’s pop single ‘Head on my Shoulder’ by Paul Anka, is currently in distribution online and on Mr Vegas’ Youtube Channel as well as on Television Stations in Jamaica and the region;.
The entire Hot Magnum Project is undoubtedly set to ignite passion in the Dancehall heading into the Valentines Season and beyond.

Mr. Vegas Foundation raised over 1/4 Million
Great support was received from the artiste community and the general public as Mr Vegas initiated his first ever Charity Food Drive to benefit the Children of the Mustard Seed Communities.
Over $250,000 worth of non-perishable food items and beverages were collected in the Mr Vegas Foundation led food drive initiative in December!
Collection barrels were placed in Megamart Locations islandwide, General Food Supermarket in Liguanea and Joong Supermarkets in Portmore and Stony Hill over a period spanning three weeks. Members of the public were asked to donate these food items while doing their regular shopping at these locations.
A huge part of the Food drive project saw Jamaican artistes participating in celebrity packing initiatives where they motivated shoppers to buy something extra and even became baggers for a day; packing customer’s groceries at specific locations. Artistes like Freddie McGregor, George Nooks, Kevin Downswell, Omari, Chris Martin, D Major, RDX, Kevin from Voicemail, Torch, Natel, latty J and Mr Vegas himself took on the role of packers at both General Food in liguanea and Joong Supermarket in Portmore.
Mr Vegas was quite moved to see the support from his fellow artistes on a project and cause in which he is so deeply invested “I’m overwhelmed that so many artistes took the time out of their busy schedule to give back to the Mustard Seed, it’s great when we can use our popularity to do something positive”
Reggae Veteran Freddy McGregor also expressed his pleasure at being a part of the project “Something as simple as packing a few bags and talking to customers means more to me than doing a charity performance, it’s such a great feeling”
The Mr Vegas Foundation was established in 2014 with the primary goal of assisting various in need organizations in Jamaica through initiatives like the food drive project, events and direct donations.
In 2015 the Foundation will be continuing the Food Drive Initiative and plans are already underway for the Winter staging of the Euphoria Charity Concert which promises to be a bigger and better project than the first event held in December 2014.

Mr Vegas’ Euphoria Charity concert this Sunday!
All elements are aligned for the first staging of the electrifying Charity Concert, Euphoria to be held this Sunday at the LIME Golf Academy in New Kingston.
With International Artistes already in Jamaica undertaking the promotional appearances and rehearsals, fans can expect a quality show from a quality line-up of artistes.
Performing LIVE for the very first time on a Jamaican stage are Karyn ‘Super Woman’ White and The group Champaign known for such hits as ‘How Bout Us” and ‘Try Again”! Plus local heavy weights; Freddie McGregor, Ernie Smith, Leroy Sibbles, Mr Vegas, Kevin Downswell, Christopher Martin, Romaine Virgo and more also set to dominate the stage.
Come this Sunday patrons will be treated to a plethora of additives and features to ensure comfort and enjoyment at the event; from general admission seating and unencumbered bar access to VIP Elevated lavish lounge areas and all inclusive splendor.
The event ensures that all patrons will be comfortable while enjoying the full showcase of stars performing by LIVE backing bands. The event begins promptly at 7pm and also includes adequate parking and shuttle service to and from the venue.
Event promoter, Clifford Smith who performs as Mr Vegas, is excited at the response he has been receiving to the event thus far. “The buzz is out there for sure and people are excited about the performers, I personally am looking forward to seeing all these artistes perform because I am not just the event promoter I am also a fan of all the acts that have given their talent for this worthy cause” Mr Vegas Commented
All proceeds from the Euphoria Charity Concert go towards purchasing food for the Children of the Mustard Seed Communities, a charity that Mr Vegas has committed to assisting for the past 8 years through his Aid Organization, The Mr Vegas Foundation.
Tickets can be purchased at Fontana Pharmacy, Xtraz Manor Park, Liguanea Drug and Garden Centre, Ochi Rios Jerk Centre and D’Rehab Sports Bar and Lounge. Tickets cost $3000 for general admission, $5000 for VIP and $10,000 Super All Inclusive VIP Gold.
Jamaicans are being urged to support this initiative by either donating actual food items to the food Drive or by attending the Concert, with the latter, the additive of fine family entertainment is guaranteed!
