Foota Hype responds to giving girl tin mackerel and food at dance

Popular selector Foota Hype has hit back at social media users who criticised him for a video which surfaced on the Internet recently.

The selector was one of the disc jocks at last Thursday’s staging of Hotta Rice Day Rave in Greenwich Farm, St Andrew, and his action towards a young lady during his set is being condemned as disrespectful.

This, after he described her as being skinny and gave her several grocery items, which he said she needed to put on weight.

Love comment

Foota responded to the comments through his social media pages on Tuesday. In a tweet, the DJ said: “All when mi do good them still a cuss mi. Dah girl mawga to an extreme and mi buy her some groceries inna di dance fi help her put on likkle weight. And fi all who love comment and chat and never deh a Day Rave Thursday, di girl get her groceries and her money too and this no new to dancehall, a years from Passa Passa and Dutty Fridays time. Dancehall mean drama, excitement and a bag a tings so God go wid who no like it. Some a unu just chat too much and go si di mount a skeleton weh inna fi unu closet.”

During his Day Rave set Foota invited the young lady to the selector’s quarters where he enquired about her age, among other things. During the interrogation, the selector could be heard cursing expletives and commenting on the young lady’s physical appearance. The female patron, who disclosed that she was 17, was clearly offended by Hype’s words, as she folded her hands and knitted her brows.

Not pleased

“Yuh eva watch TV and hear dem say to help dis child send donations to 167753421? How yuh mawga so?,” the DJ asked as he analysed the young woman’s appearance and listed food items she needed, before proceeding to order some groceries from a nearby shop. Among the items ordered were Supligen, crackers, condensed milk and tin mackerels.

Patrons were clearly amused and supported the DJ’s actions, many urging the young girl to take the items and the money he offered. Although clearly not pleased with the situation, she listened to the crowd and walked away with the food items and $1,000. Despite support from the Day Rave crowd, social media users have put Foota Hype on blast for his actions, saying he went overboard in embarrassing the young girl.

“This is so disrespectful,” one user said.

Another added: “This is very wrong, some people don’t know what limit is. Just to look a hype, This is disgraceful.”

Others bashed the young girl, stating that she caused it on herself for being in a space only adults should be.

Foota Hype Disses Skatta & ex-lover, Ishawna in 99 Problems

Popular selector Foota Hype has recorded a song aimed at Skatta Burrell and his ex-lover, Ishawna, called 99 Problems. The song was produced by Markus Records and will be released next week.

Foota Hype was unavailable for comment yesterday, however, co-writer and producer of the song, Markus Myrie, confirmed that the single was aimed at Foota Hype’s former Downsound Record’s label mates.

“The concept is about having 99 problems but a girl is not one. Foota Hype just come to the studio and hear the rhythm and began to speak his mind. The song come out good and it a guh run bout yah. suh mi nuh know wey Skatta and Ishawna a guh duh, because as yu hear the song, yu know where it is directing to,” Markus said.

The intro of the song sees Foota Hype throwing jabs at Burrell and Ishawna. “Some dutty gyal gone dung a Riverton bin and some rasta fi guh trim. Dem a lick dung di gyal dem like ice cream from Crazy Jim,” he chants.

Despite being directly involved in the wording and production of the song, Markus says he is not taking any sides in the feud.

“Mi nah tek nuh side, if Ishawna wah respond, she can link mi for the rhythm. For the first time doing a song, Foota Hype did very well and sound better than nuff man first effort,” he said.

99 Problems is featured on Markus Records Syndicate rhythm compilation, which will be released next week. The compilation will also feature songs from Assassin, I-Octane, Bounty Killer, Jahazeil Myrie, Bryka, Markus Myrie, Elephant Man and D’East.

The preview of the song, which was produced by ZJ Chrome, was released two days ago and has already been making the rounds on social media, with fans of the Grung Gaad calling for a boycott of Alkaline.

Not one to hold back, Bounty Killer immediately took to Instagram and berated ZJ Chrome for the song.

“Boy Chrome you celebrating to produce a song a diss me. Nice, mi like it. Although me done know you are a Gaza fg from long time. Anything unuh get, unuh fi tek.”

Chrome immediately responded, informing Bounty Killer that he was not celebrating but rather promoting his production.

When contacted, Foota Hype told THE STAR that the song was not important to him.

“That song is unimportant to me. The line that Alkaline said about me is more fitting to him. Anybody look pon Foota Hype see that I am a real and straight man. When I look at that creature, I see somebody that is shaky. Alkaline is the ultimate meaning of shakiness,” Foota Hype said.

He also blasted Alkaline for his obsession with Vybz Kartel.

“I am the most talked about human being in dancehall right now so of course Alkaline a go call me name. Alkaline just caan handle the fact that Kartel is the hottest deejay in a dancehall. Him a dress like Kartel and a tief the man style. Him obsessed with Kartel. Dem better put him in Addi cell,” Foota Hype told THE STAR.
