Assassin collabs with Kendrick Lamar

Once again, dancehall artiste Assassin has made his mark on the international scene with a collaboration with one of the hottest rappers, Kendrick Lamar.

In 2013, Assassin was featured in Kanye West’s I’m In It that was part of his album Yeezus. Again, Assassin has collaborated with a major act for another song, The Blacker The Berry, that will be part of Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming album.


The song was released on Monday, a day after Kendrick received two Grammy awards in the ‘Best Rap Song’ and ‘Best Rap Performance’ categories.

Speaking with Assassin yesterday, he explained that he recorded the chorus specifically for the song, and it is not a sample as some people have been suggesting. He noted that rapper Kardinal Offishall was also very instrumental in the process.

“Kardinal Offishall was instrumental. The producer Boi-1Da wanted some Jamaican flavour and he asked Kardinal and my name came up. They sent me a sample of the vibe they were going for and I wrote something for the demo I got,” Assassin told THE STAR yesterday.

While it is the second such collaboration for Assassin in recent times, he is still very excited to be able to represent his country.

“It is great and I am always happy to represent the music and the culture. It is on a greater platform and a different audience. Hopefully, people will get some exposure to dancehall and hopefully we can win them over,” he said.

“We stay working and it is good to put in the work and have projects like this come up and you are rewarded like this.”

While he did not say if there will be additional work with Kendrick Lamar in the future, Assassin remains optimistic.

“It is early days and we have a lot on the table. I welcome the opportunity to work with anybody who is willing to collaborate once we are on the same page. I am just really grateful,” Assassin said.

Assassin, Vegas, Spice, Alkaline for Sumfest Dancehall 2014 Night

The organizers of Reggae Sumfest have confirmed the lyrical Assassin and new sensation Alkaline for Dancehall night, July 17 of, the 22nd staging of Reggae Sumfest. ‘The Greatest Reggae Show on Earth’, is already shaping up to be 2014’s most memorable event and returns to its home base Catherine Hall, Montego Bay from July 13 – 19.

Agent Sasco aka Assassin along with the controversial young blood Alkaline is an indication that the Festival organizers are putting together a line-up of searing hot performers synonymous with exceptional entertainment. Fans are in for a treat as the prolific hit maker Mr. Vegas and the industry’s most daring leading lady Spice will stamp their own brand of entertainment on Catherine Hall. Other dancehall artistes confirmed for the greatest dancehall celebration are QQ, Bugle, Aidonia and I-Octane who closed the show last year on an explosive note.

While keeping the other names under tight wraps, Sumfest Directors are assuring patrons that there will be more exciting announcements to follow in the coming weeks. Executive Director Johnny Gourzong says “This year’s staging will be an entertainment package guaranteed to please and music lovers should take advantage of the early bird tickets special to make sure that they can be part of an unforgettable musical experience in Montego Bay come the 13th of July.”

Assassin aka Agent Sasco is undoubtedly one of dancehall’s top performers with a list of hits from an expansive catalogue. Fans can expect a lyrical onslaught as the artiste switches between his hardcore persona, Assassin and the more refined Agent Sasco with hits such as Late, Same Thing Again, Talk How Me Feel and Girls Gone Wild.

Vegas, is the dancehall gifter with treats galore. Currently blazing a trail across the world, the resilient and charismatic performer will touch hits such as Bruk it Down, Party Tun Up, Sweet Jamaica, I Am Blessed and his most recent party rocker Give It to Her.

Spice will be representing for the women and she too cannot be discounted nor outdone when it comes to performing. Spice, while being shy and soft spoken off-stage is the exact opposite when she gets in front of an audience. The artiste transform into a raunchy, sensual diva as she delivers lyrics to songs such as Twerk, Why You Mad and her recent hit, So Me Like It which was remixed with Hip-Hop star Busta Rhymes.

The exciting, controversial, eccentric rising star Alkaline is also expected to deliver a massive performance in what will be his second appearance on the show. Alkaline has grown vastly since his debut performance last year, his lyrical delivery and fan base has expanded and he continues to express himself in bold ways. Alkaline is expected to keep the audience ignited with songs such as Bruk Out, Things Me Love and Move Mountains.
