Her ‘Voice’ journey may have come to an end, but Jamaica-born singer Anita Antoinette is now more determined than ever to make it in the music industry. Now that the world is more aware of who she is and what she is about, Antoinette says she is now fully focused on getting her musical career off the ground.
In an interview with The Gleaner, Antoinette described her ‘Voice’ journey as an eye-opening experience that taught her to be more confident in herself. She said she is now ready to take the music to the next level.
“Right now, my focus is to start recording, getting in the studio with key producers so that I can show my fans and followers more of who I truly am musically,” she said, pointing out that the competition has given her just enough exposure to kick-start her career.
Antoinette may have a shot at re-entering the competition as the wild card, but like the rest of the world, she too has to wait and see. In the meantime, she used the opportunity to thank her Caribbean fans for their support during her time on the show.
“I am grateful for each and every one for their positive energy and votes,” she said, before pointing out that last year’s winner, Tessanne Chin, was one of her biggest supporters.
“Tessanne reached out to me with her love, encouragement and support. She believes in my talent and inspires me to shine and I’m grateful for that.”
She also revealed that following the announcement that she would no longer be a part of the competition, her coach, Gwen Stefani, encouraged her to continue pursuing her dreams for the right reasons, and she has as great a shot as any at a successful career.
Naming media personality Nikki Z as another big supporter from the diaspora, Antoinette told The Gleaner that she has been making connections with several persons from the local entertainment industry, and even hinted at a Jamaican visit in the near future.
“Nikki Z has been a huge supporter and resource for me in the industry. She is helping to make some connections with quite a few individuals and I hope to make a trip to Jamaica real soon,” she said.
Since news of her elimination from the competition spread, several entertainers have been using social media to reach out to the young singer, pledging their continued support and expressing words of encouragement. Among them are last year’s ‘Voice’ winner, Tessanne Chin, Lady Saw, Nikki Z, Shaggy and Etana, as well as her coach Gwen Stefani.
