Mariah Carey to Headline JA Jazz and Blues 2015 Festival

Grammy-winning singer and pop legend, Mariah Carey will perform for the first time on Jamaican soil as she has been announced as the headline act for the 2015 Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, set for the final weekend of January in Trelawny.


Carey is of the best selling female acts and premier vocalists of all time, with five Grammys, 21 American Music Awards and over 200 million albums sold throughout her illustrious career. She also has 18 Billboard chart-topping singles to her credit, the most of any solo artist in history and was named Billboard’s Artist of the Decade for her work in the 1990s, Some of her number one hits include Heartbreaker, Honey, I‘ll Be There, Don’t Forget About Us and We Belong Together.


In a statement released Thursday, Carey expressed excitement about making her debut in Jamaica at the festival.


“I’m thrilled to be performing in Jamaica for the first time ever,” she said. “I can’t wait to connect with my Jamaican fans and I am really looking forward to spending some time pon de island as well.”


Jazz and Blues festival producer, Walter Elmore was also thrilled with the development, saying in a statement, “Welcoming Mariah Carey to Jamaica’s shores is truly exciting and we are extremely pleased to announce this iconic star as our headline act for 2015. Her agreeing to perform on our stage is a testament to the quality of our production. We are the only festival in the Western Hemisphere to present Mariah Carey since her last tour in 2006.”


Promoters of the show say fans can expect Carey to perform many of her hits – including a cross section of pop, R&B song and ballads – as well as songs from her most recent album, Me. I am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse, which was released this past May.


The 2015 edition of the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival willl be the 19th edition of the show and will take place at Greenfield Stadium in Trelawny from Jan. 29-31.
