Kaci Fennell, aka Miss Jamaica, was one of the fan favorites to win Miss Universe Sunday night.
But she ended up coming in fourth place behind Ukraine, the Netherlands, the U.S. and the big winner, Miss Colombia.
And it might have come down to the answer Fennell gave to this question during the Q&A portion of the pageant: “What is the greatest contribution of your country to the entire world?”
“As we all know, we have the home to the legendary Usain Bolt and Bob Marley, who have contributed such great music to this world, and we have the fastest man alive,” said Fennell during the Miss Universe Pageant.
Response to Fennell’s answer was pretty mixed. Some viewers thought the beauty queen’s response should have secured her a place in the top three. But others were convinced it’s exactly what lost her the crown.
A writer for Hollywood Life said Fennell’s answer wasn’t as “eloquent” as the other contestants’ statements about their countries’ leaders, war and global support.
But regardless, the loud boos from the crowd when Miss Jamaica was announced as the fourth runner up made it pretty clear — fans were not happy with how the competition ended.
And that’s probably because so many were rooting for Fennell and her refreshingly different look: her short-hair-don’t-care attitude made waves.
