Alia Atkinson won 3 gold medal in 2014 Swimming World Cup

Olympian Alia Atkinson completed a hat trick of gold medal performances as she completed her 2014 Swimming World Cup campaign in Singapore yesterday.

One day after she set the second fastest time ever and new national record in the 100metres breaststroke, Atkinson returned to win the 50-metre breaststroke in 29.00 seconds flat.

The Jamaican main rival, Lithuania’s Ruta Meilutyte was second in 29.26seconds, while Katie Meili was third in 30.35seconds.

Atkinson later returned to claim the 200-metre breaststroke winning in an impressive 2 minutes 17.84seconds over Japan’s Rita Imai and Russia’s Maria Astashkina.

On Saturday, the Florida-based Atkinson set an American, Commonwealth and Jamaican national record in the 100metres breaststroke, clocking 1minute :02.54 seconds to win gold in the event.

It was the second fastest time of all time and a mere 0.18seconds off the 1minute: 02.36 second clocking set by Meilutyte in October 2013.
