At least 47 people were killed and 75 wounded on Thursday after a suicide bomber detonated himself at a rally in Tahrir Square in Yemen’s capital city of Sanaa.
The attack came shortly after Yemen’s prime minister-designate refused his nomination because the Houthis — a Shiite rebel group that took control of the city last month — called for protests rejecting his appointment. Houthi supporters had assembled in Tahrir Square to mount an anti-government demonstration.
Meanwhile, another suicide bomber drove a vehicle filled with explosives into a security outpost on the outskirts of the sourthern port city of Mukalla, killing at least 20 soldiers.
