Rare Earthquake Shakes New York Area, Rattling Residents Across Multiple States

An earthquake struck the New York area on Friday morning, causing a stir among residents of New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The seismic event, a preliminary 4.8-magnitude quake, originated near Lebanon, New Jersey, at approximately 10:23 a.m., as reported by the US Geological Survey.

Residents across a broad region experienced the tremors, feeling the ground shake as far north as New Paltz, New York, and as far south as Delaware. In Newark, Delaware, Kelly Shone, a mother of two, described the sensation as a "slight rumbling," initially mistaking it for her husband moving around in their home.

While the immediate extent of damage was unclear, New York Governor Kathy Hochul assured the public that her team was actively assessing the impacts and potential damages. New York City Mayor Eric Adams was also briefed on the situation, confirming that no major impacts had been reported in the city.

The incident sparked reactions across social media, with the Empire State Building's official X account humorously confirming its well-being. However, As reported by NY Times the quake left many residents unsettled, as echoed by Traci Slade from Clifton, NJ, who expressed her shock and fear during the event.

Further details revealed the earthquake's epicenter was located approximately 50 miles west of Manhattan, in Lebanon, NJ. The tremors were felt across a wide area, from Philadelphia to Boston, causing temporary disruptions at several East Coast airports and prompting building evacuations in Manhattan.

Despite the rarity of such seismic events in the Northeast, New York has experienced several noticeable earthquakes over the years, including a notable 5.2 magnitude quake in 1884.

Masicka Names His Dogs Off His Hit Songs: Talks Ups and Downs in his Dancehall Career and More - Interview

Masicka is being touted as one of the best of the new generation of dancehall which is something he agrees with, so much so that he named his last album 'Generation of Kings'. In recent times, more than before the deejay has been hitting locally with almost every song he releases.

Some of these hit songs mean a lot to him more than others, so much so that he decided to name multiple of his dogs off his hit songs, 'Top Form', 'Image' and 'Drug Lord' are some of the names given to the dogs. Notably, Elephant Man is known to also name his dogs from names of his hit songs such as 'Log On' etc.

After introducing one of his dogs to everyone, in a newly released interview, Masicka talks with Seani B | 1Xtra in Jamaica about the ups and downs in his career and being able to live 'the dancehall dream' after starting out with not much.

According to Masicka, the hardships and going through different stages in his career were some of the most 'enjoyable moments'. He then urges the younger artistes to appreciate the different stages of their career and not just the end result.

With regards to the growth in the music, Masicka contributes his improvement to "constructive criticism," he says earlier he had "too much" lyrics in the songs and agrees with that earlier criticism.

'They Don't Know' was a career-changing song, says Masicka who went on to state that initially it was not his "favourite song", however, he said over time the song grew on him because it has an addictive thing to it and it's simplicity yet detailed, with regards to his journey.

Masicka had a lot to say including overcoming depression and thoughts of leaving music to get a job. He also highlighted that he went to college for one year and decided to stop because of his love for music.

Reggae and Dancehall veteran Buju Banton has finally broken his silence surrounding the passing of his 20-year-old son, Miles Myrie. Buju took to social media Thursday afternoon to mourn the passing.

This post from Buju Banton comes a few days after his other son, Jahazeil Myrie, broke the news online, Jahazeil has been silent on the matter since.

For his post, Buju shared a picture of his deceased son giggling/laughing, along with a short message that says, "Sip papa God knows."

Squash Responds to The Rumours About Fall Out With Chronic Law - See Post

As per rumours, there is a rift between Dancehall artistes Chronic Law and Squash, and it appears that Squash has responded to the speculations. 

The rumour of their fallout has been in circulation for some time, but it gained momentum after Chronic Law made several posts online, indicating that he was in the home town ( Montego Bay, St. James) of his rivals.

"Bad Native !!!Ina Dem Home Town MAN" Chronic Law wrote under one post and tagged his friend. 

Notably, Montego Bay is the home town of Squash. Furthermore, Chronic Law, who hails from St. Thomas, also shared a video of his most recent performance in Montego Bay.

During his set, Chronic Law praised Shabdon and Fat Head. Shabdon and Squash are also rumoured rivals after their friendship turned sour some time ago.

Chronic Law continued to make Instagram posts about being "ina dem home town" by sharing a video showing him standing among a group of men as he looked around while stating, "Nah see dem inna dem home town."

On the heels of these posts, Squash posted a message on his Instagram Stories, expressing that the internet is "The internet crazy" and seemingly indicating that he will allow people to think and talk about what they want.

Kingston to Host Global Track and Field Festivity in May: Jamaica Athletics Invitational (JAI)

Kingston will host the Jamaica Athletics Invitational (JAI) on Saturday, May 11, 2024, offering a unique blend of top-tier athletic competition and entertainment. Tyla Praises Skillibeng for His Lyrics on 'Jump' plus Talks About Her Time in Jamaica - Watch Video

Following the release of her single Jump, South African singer Tyla has praised Jamaican Dancehall artiste Skillibeng for the Jamaican vibes that he brought to the single.

Tyla visited Jamaica, last year in November, and photos shared by the artiste of her recording music in a studio ignited speculation that she may be collaborating with a local artiste. The Water singer went on to release Jump last month, which featured American rapper Gunna in addition to Skillibeng.

During an interview on BBC Radio 1xtra, Tyla discussed the single and why she chose her collaborators. She explained that during her trip to the island, which was her first, she was recording music and, upon relistening to Jump, decided that it needed some Jamaican vibes.

Tyla said she later connected with Skillibeng, whom she praised for adding something to the single that she could not refuse. Skillibeng's verse is featured in the intro and the outro for the track.

The official lyric video for Jump was released on March 21 and has so far amassed over 1.6 million views and 66,000 likes on YouTube. Jump is also one of the featured singles on Tyla's self-titled debut studio album.

Black Man Beats Up 3 Caucasian Men after Standoff at Pool Party - Watch Video

A black man unexpectedly fought off a group of caucasian men who confronted him during a pool party. The incident was captured by another visitor at the pool, who can be heard in the footage expressing her shock.

At the beginning of the video, the black man can be seen speaking to one particular caucasian male in the group. Tension is evident between them, and the woman recording can be heard saying, "He won't shake his hand."

It is unclear whom she is speaking about and what led to the confrontation. However, the black man suddenly punches the white man in the face, prompting the group to leap into action and retaliate with punches.

Although some of the punches they throw connect with the dark-skinned man, he manages to beat them up. Eventually, other men at the pool intervene, separating the men.

The information accompanying the video noted, "Some of the regulars at a pool party ended up taking an unexpected dive after several of them tried to jump the Black guy. He then ended up educating them with some swift diversity training."
