63-year-old Priest Marries 12-year-old Girl in Ghana

63-year-old Priest Marries 12-year-old Girl in Ghana

A customary marriage which took place last Saturday in Ghana has ignited controversy, where Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII, a 63-year-old high-ranking traditional priest, married a 12-year-old girl in an event that attracted widespread social media attention and public uproar.

In Ghana, the legal threshold for marriage is set at 18 years, with the country witnessing a decrease in child marriages, though they still occur. Customary marriages, recognized under Ghanaian law, exclude those involving minors.

The marriage ceremony as reported by the BBC, conducted in accordance with local traditions of the Nungua indigenous community in Accra, showcased women instructing the young bride on her new responsibilities, further intensifying public dissent.

Community leaders, however, defend the marriage, attributing the outcry to misunderstandings of their traditions. Despite these assertions, critics demand the marriage's annulment and legal scrutiny of Mr. Tsuru's actions.

Girls Not Brides, a global NGO, highlights that 19% of Ghanaian girls marry before 18, with 5% marrying before 15, indicating the persistent issue of child marriage. The girl involved had been undergoing rites for this marriage since she was six, with assurances that her education remained unaffected.

She is slated for another ceremony to ready her for her responsibilities as the priest's wife.

Mr. Tsuru, known as a "Gborbu Wulomo," holds a significant position within his community, tasked with leading spiritual and cultural rites. Despite his status and the community's support, the marriage has drawn significant backlash, prompting calls for governmental intervention to address this controversial union.

Rapper Rod Wave Arrested and Charged in Florida for Possession of Firearm

Rapper Rod Wave Arrested and Charged in Florida for Possession of Firearm

25-year-old American rapper, Rod Wave who is mainly known for his track 'Street Runner,' has encountered legal issues once again, this time in Florida. He was arrested and taken to Manatee County Jail on Wednesday, facing charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, the rapper was taken into custody in Pinellas County following an alleged evasion of police. Details about Wave's arrest remain scant, but it has been reported that his bond was set at $0.

A mug shot is now circulating online of the rapper. However, the specifics surrounding the arrest remain somewhat vague.

Following the arrest, Wave's legal representation, Bradford Cohen and Mark Rankin, swiftly challenged the charges. As per reports, from TMZ They argue that the classification of Rod Wave as a convicted felon is a mistake, asserting that he has never been convicted of a felony. They are adamant that a more thorough investigation should have been conducted before the charges were levelled against him.

Despite the ongoing legal battle, reports indicate that Rod Wave has been released on his own recognizance. However, contrasting information from jail records suggests he might still be in custody. This discrepancy adds another layer of complexity to the situation.

Rod Wave's legal history includes previous encounters with the law. Notably, he faced a domestic violence case also in Florida, where he was accused of felony battery. The charges were eventually dropped, reinforcing his legal team's stance that he has no felony convictions.

Currently, Rod Wave's situation is under scrutiny, as it's reported that he was found with weapons or ammunition. Given his alleged status as a felon, such possession would be illegal, although the exact repercussions he faces remain uncertain.

Spice Gets Emotional During Confrontation on Love & Hip-Hop - Watch Videos

Spice Gets Emotional During Confrontation on Love & Hip-Hop - Watch Videos

In what seems to be the latest episode of the reality TV show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, Dancehall artiste Spice got emotional during a confrontation amid her fallout with Karlie Redd.

Once close friends, Spice and Karlie have been at odds for the most recent seasons of Love & Hip-Hop, with Spice recently revealing several reasons why their friendship ended. During a group trip to Canada, tensions flared as Spice's castmates attempted to have the pair reconcile.

While at dinner, Yandy Smith tried to convince Spice to sing her and Karlie's single, Werk. However, the attempt only created more tension at the table, with Spice expressing that Karlie treated her badly after their collaboration.

While Adizia 'Bambi' Benson tried to calm things down, in a snippet of the latter portion of the episode, things appeared to take a turn for the worse. In the clip, Spice seemingly lashed out at Karlie and other castmates.

The Cool It artiste said they were trying to depict her as a bully and push a narrative that Karlie is afraid of her. "All of yall need to stop with this scare narrative because yall trying to paint me like a bully. Is she scared of Sierra? Sierra box her in her face; Sierra hit her in her face, but she's not scared of Sierra," Spice stated.

The artiste then became emotional as she accused her castmates again of consistently trying to depict her as a bully. In a cutaway shot, Karlie accused Spice of not taking accountability for anything that she had done and expressed that she and the entertainer may never reconcile. However, in her own cutaway shot, Spice admitted to being overly aggressive at times, as she had to build a rough exterior to succeed in the music industry.

"I lost my dad when I was nine years old. Growing up ina Jamaica, it was so hard for me. Even going into the business, Dancehall is a harsh place. It's a male-dominated business, so I had to be like that man figure. Even though it has built me, and mould me, and shape me into my success story, the woman that I am, and the artiste that I am, It also comes with that negative part of me being so aggressive and so quick to fight back and quick to lash out," Spice stated.
